The Better Man

Aside

           The Better Man

This will be my finest hour.
Close the door, lock the knob.
I promise, profanity needeth disappear.
Tell your puppet to call Ocala home.
Cut the beat, slow your roll, a cappella, silence!
Tony Davis, heed the call.

Standing on the grounds, I see two faces.
Through pink glass, a light tint brightens the mood.
But what happens behind closed doors…..
Will become world-renowned, an intolerable fact.
Five and eight, no practice, two boats?
Tyranny! You wrote this poem for me.
Buy me a sandwich, then steal my lunch money?
Tony Davis, heed the call.

Dizziness, but I still see you.
Give me your credentials, show me your clearance.
Trapped in a corner, a Dick and George bond.
Insult my father, threaten my mother.
“Take it to the house.”
Buy me a sandwich, then steal my lunch money?
Tony Davis, heed the call.

Using a game, to hide your choices.
Smash that board into six pieces!
Destroy Milton H. Johnson’s wall!
Give me the chair, and I’ll give you a present.
Break your name, break the maze, and break your machine.
Buy me a sandwich, then steal my lunch money?
Tony Davis, heed the call.

Downtown Panama, six months after the Karate Man.
Give me a start, three minutes in, one mistake.
Remove, then stare me down with black eyes.
Tearful cries, heartless lies, tearless laughs, heartful change.
Break-up my family? Karate Man can.
Karate Man can’t! Karate Man can’t!
Evil endure less than two days!
Buy me a sandwich, then steal my lunch money?
Tony Davis, heed the call.

One, two, three, work hard!
Basketball is life, and life is basketball.
Garnet and gold blues, they gave me a chance.
The game is life, and life is a game.
A boy’s dream, it was my right.
The Karate Man, Coach Tyrone, needeth disappear.
I am the game, and I’m not playing.
Buy me a sandwich, then steal my lunch money?
Tony Davis, heed the call.

First week of February, a few weeks after the calling.
An Earl Rich tantrum.
Sidney Baxter considers this spam?
Ice on my brain, blood on my mind.
Waning, waning, waning, waxing your kind.
“Midnight’s” chance ruined. “Midnight’s” last stand.
Locker room blues. Insult my brothers.
Number 23, 32, 55, 31, never, never, again.
Uniforms off, laundry time. I knew it was the end.
Buy me a sandwich, then steal my lunch money?
Tony Davis, heed the call.

Summertime, second week, June, I’m not sad.
I’ll make this simple for an inconsiderate poser.
You cussed me in front of my teammates.
In front of my brothers, and then you glared…..
With evil, maniacal, and crazed eyes.
You said that I quit?
Clarification: I never started.
I completed my term, and decided to retire.
Why? Because IT was gone.
It’s easy to soak a seventeen year old boy’s eyes with tears.
But come at me now, Tyrone, come at me now.
Buy me a sandwich, then steal my lunch money?
Tony Davis, heed the call.

A thousand reasons to remember my name.
And a few more to assure that you’re confused by two faces.
A double t and a d, represents expulsion.
You can insult my family, or dilute my visions.
In the shower, I fight for my mind.
You can disfigure the clouds, and drop the rain.
You can live and I’ll die, gravestone blues, all in vain.
Because we all know how well you are with balconies.

But remember this…..
I’m more of a man than you will ever be.
You can take that to the house, and to the bank.
I’m the better man.
Buy me a sandwich, then steal my lunch money?
Tony Davis, heed the call.

Peace is its name.
RAD isn’t racist.

My Soul is a Sea (Lithium)

Aside

My Soul is a Sea (Lithium)

 Long-lost companions above the sky
I adjust my hat; dark, proud, and wise.
(I’m so happy, because today I found my friends.)
Ethnocentric blasphemy; lies, lies, lies
Today I heard a story, one that is never told.
(They’re in my head.)

A faded streetlamp, outside Lonely Rooms Corner
It matters not; a divine light cannot distinguish the horror.
(I’m so ugly, that’s ok, because so are you.)
High towers, high kings, corrupt priests, low esteem
It comes to me, out of the blackest night.
(We’ve broke our mirrors.)

Die illusions!  Die!
Surrender confusion!  Goodbye!
(Sunday morning, is every day for all I care.)
I am scared.
While I rub bloody sweat out of my eyes
And while merciless time heeds the call
Here this message.  It’s wet, and lacks buoyancy.
But it’s deep, and everlasting.
Please, break down the wall!
(Light my candles, in a daze because I found God.)

My soul is a sea, and “Lithium” tames the tides.

Breathing, my only escape from pessimism.
Hypocrisy and hatred, keeps me locked behind closed doors.
(I’m so lonely, that’s ok, I shaved my head.)
Colorful murals clawed by innocent, fear-stricken hands.
Hope, passion, and love bleed into the abstract spectrum.
I am sad.
Indigestion, neck-pains, and lonely nights while wandering….
Why can’t he be happy?  I’m not sad!
(And just maybe, I’m to blame for all I’ve heard.)
I am sure.

This is not depression, only an inner release.
What am I holding on to?
Lost in time, and everybody’s staring.
I refuse to run off the road.
(I’m so excited; I can’t wait, to reach you there.)
Chains, chains, chains
These nightmares are shameful, I’ll take my meds!
Fuck police brutality, bring on the dreads!
I do care!
I have a need, to give.
(I’m so lonely, that’s ok, my will is good.)

Life passes by, while I listen to Kurt’s agony.
And changes change whiles I pace to and fro.
(I like it, I miss you, I love you, I killed you,)
I “am” gonna crack.

My soul is a sea, and “Lithium” tames the tides.

Mary Rose

Aside

          Mary Rose

Across the valley, and inside the mountain
Lies a cottage, a house, and a work shed.
Beneath the smog, is where Uncle Ralph works in peace.
But something is missing….a soul.
A partner….Mary Rose.

Uncle Ralph builds his trains and his tracks.
And he pieces them together, so that he can get her back.
But Mary Rose lies silent, pale, and stiff.
Away in a coffin, where everyone sleeps.
But where is….Mary Rose?

Uncle Ralph tends to his garden regularly.
His vegetables grow higher than Orion’s Belt.
And his grape vines are longer than the Mississippi.
I remember when Cadan ran through the garden.
Joyfully, and without a care in the world.
If only he knew, about the memories that lie beneath the soil.
The ones that Uncle Ralph, shared with Mary Rose.

The elk consumes the bitterbrush.
And berries wither away amongst the frost.
But Uncle Ralph, whom has journeyed the locker backwards and forwards….
Fears no famine.
However, even the strongest diamond is subject to a harder substance.
And to Uncle Ralph, Mary Rose is….
The Sword in the Stone.
